Honouring Womanhood: A Faith-Based Reflection on International Women’s Day

My dears sisters, it’s that time of the year again, when on March 8th, the world comes together to celebrate International Women’s Day, a time to recognise the strength, resilience, and contributions of women in all areas of life. As Christian women, we honour this day not just as a call for equality, but as a moment of reflection on how we can walk in our God-given identity while positively impacting the world around us starting from our homes.

While the movement for women’s rights seeks fairness and opportunity, we must remember that true empowerment is not about competing with men, but embracing our God-ordained roles with strength, wisdom, and dignity in the call for equality and equity in opportunities for women with the theme, Accelerate Action. This is a time to celebrate our progress, acknowledge our challenges, and reflect on how we can continue to uplift one another.

What International Women’s Day is NOT About.

While this day is a powerful reminder of our values and contributions, it is also important to honour womanhood in a way that aligns with our faith. True empowerment does not mean abandoning the virtues that make us strong, graceful, and faith-filled women. Below are some actions or habits i have noticed over years each time this day comes up and i think, this is not what this day is about.

1.It is NOT a License to Be Disrespectful or Unkind in Our Homes

Too often, I have seen women use this day as an opportunity to act in ways that dishonour their homes, demanding authority in a way that breeds strife instead of peace. Sisters, let’s remember that we are builders, not destroyers.

“The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.”Proverbs 14:1

Honouring our husbands and families does not make us weak; it makes us virtuous women who build rather than destroy. Strength is found in wisdom, not in conflict.

2. It is NOT About Competing with Our Husbands

We are not in competition with the men in our lives. God created men and women as a team, not rivals. Our roles may differ, but our worth and contributions are equally valuable.

“Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.”1 Corinthians 11:11

Let’s stand beside our husbands, not against them—working together to create homes filled with love, peace, and purpose.

3. It is NOT an Excuse to Neglect Our Roles as Wives and Mothers

Many times, I have seen women abandon their homes and responsibilities under the excuse of “Today is my day.”

But my dear sisters, we are always called to be present, nurturing, and watchful over our homes.

“She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”Proverbs 31:27

A Christian Woman is not careless with her responsibilities—she builds her home with love and care, ensuring it remains a place of peace.

4. It is NOT a Free Pass for Immorality

It is disheartening to see that many women, even christians, use this day as an opportunity for ungodly behaviour. But as daughters of God, we are called to pursue holiness, not the fleeting pleasures of the world.

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”Proverbs 31:30

If we truly fear the Lord, we will honour this day with grace and dignity. True empowerment comes from character, wisdom, and integrity—not from following worldly trends that do not glorify God.

5.It is NOT an Excuse for Immodesty

Today, what was once considered improper is now seen as normal. Many women dress without modesty, exposing themselves in ways that do not reflect the dignity of womanhood. again is sad to see that, as daughters of the kingdom we sometimes find ourselves in this ungodly trends, with excuse that God sees our heart and not our outer look.

“Likewise, women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control.”1 Timothy 2:9

As Dat Christian Woman, let us uphold modesty and self-respect, knowing that our beauty is not just in how we look but in how we honour God with our bodies. Remember, his words says our bodies is the table of the lord.

How Can We Then Honour Womanhood on This Day?

Instead of being swept up in a culture that distorts the meaning of womanhood, let’s use this day as a moment of reflection and purpose. Let’s celebrate with wisdom, grace, and dignity, knowing that true empowerment comes from living out our values with strength and faith. Remember we are called to be the salt and light where ever we find ourselves, so regardless of how loud the noise and trends may sound and feel , let’s stay true to who we re called to be.

1- Invest in Personal Growth – Seek wisdom, develop your skills, and grow in faith.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”Proverbs 31:25

2- Support & Lift Up Other Women – Instead of competing, let’s encourage and uplift one another.
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.”1 Thessalonians 5:11

3- Be a Light in the Society – Whether in your home, workplace, or community, be an example of grace, kindness, and godly wisdom.

Final Thoughts

International Women’s Day is not just about demanding rights—it’s about embracing purpose. It’s a time to celebrate the beauty of being a woman as God designed us to be—strong, wise, nurturing, and faith-filled.

This year, let’s honour womanhood not just with words, but with actions that reflect grace, purpose, and faith. 💖
